The Girl Who Could Talk to Rain

Lily lived in a village where it never stopped raining. Every day, she pulled her yellow rain hat down over her curly brown hair and jumped in puddles on her way to school. But while other children complained about the wet weather, Lily loved it.

One afternoon, Lily heard a tiny voice calling her name. She looked around, but no one was there. Then she heard it again — a soft, splashing sound coming from an old rain barrel in her garden.

"Hello?" Lily called, leaning over the edge.

A drop of water hopped onto a leaf. "I'm Splash! Will you be my friend?"

Lily rubbed her eyes. A talking water drop! "Yes! But... how can I talk to you?"

"Because you have a magical heart," Splash said, bouncing excitedly. "All water listens to you — the rain, the rivers, even the tears of the clouds!"

From that day on, Lily discovered she could understand the language of water. The rivers told her stories about fish dancing in moonlit pools. Ocean waves whispered secrets about treasure buried deep below. And rain drops sang songs about the places they'd visited — mountaintops, flower petals, children's laughing mouths.

But one day, Splash stopped coming to visit. The rain barrel was empty. Lily searched everywhere, calling for her friend. Finally, a wise old puddle in the park told her the terrible news.

"The Great Dry has come," the puddle said sadly. "All water is being called back to the sky to become clouds. Splash is leaving soon."

Lily's heart sank. She couldn't lose her first magical friend!

She remembered something her grandmother once said: "True friends can weather any storm together."

Lily rushed to the highest hill in town and waited under the gathering clouds. When Splash rose from the grass as mist, Lily whispered to the wind: "Take me with you."

The cloud heard her — because all water listens to Lily now. It gently lifted her up, and suddenly Lily was dancing among the stars with Splash and millions of other water drops.

"You came for me!" Splash cheered.

"Friends never leave each other behind," Lily smiled.

Together they sailed across the sky until the cloud became heavy with love and friendship. Then, as one perfect raindrop after another, they tumbled down together — landing softly in Lily's yellow hat, which she held out like a basket.

From that day on, Lily and Splash had many more adventures. And whenever it rained, children would look up to see Lily dancing in the puddles, her magical friend splashing right beside her, proof that the best friendships can weather any storm — even when the sky comes down to meet you.
