The Girl Who Could Run on Starlight
Maya loved running. Every evening, she would race across her backyard, her bare feet pattering against the grass, pretending she was chasing the sunset as it slipped below the horizon.
One Tuesday, something magical happened. While running past the old palm tree that Grandma had planted years ago, Maya noticed something strange. The tree's rough bark was glowing with tiny sparkles, like someone had sprinkled diamond dust all over it.
She reached out to touch it, and the moment her palm rested against the trunk, the sparkles swirled around her fingers, tickling like butterfly wings.
Suddenly, a girl her age popped out from behind the palm tree! She had the most extraordinary hair—long and purple, floating around her head as if she were underwater.
"Hi! I'm Luna!" the girl said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone who loves running as much as I do!"
Maya gasped. "Your hair... it's floating!"
Luna giggled. "That's because I'm made of starlight! And I have something amazing to show you."
She led Maya behind the palm tree, where none had ever been before. There, rising from the ground like something from a dream, stood a small pyramid made entirely of crystal. Inside, it glowed with every color imaginable.
"This is the Pyramid of Wishes," Luna explained. "But it only works if you're running. The magic needs motion!"
Maya's eyes widened. "So if I run around it..."
"Your wish will soar up to the stars!" Luna finished.
Maya started running, circling the crystal pyramid, faster and faster, laughing as Luna's purple hair streamed behind her like a comet's tail. With every lap, the pyramid glowed brighter until—WHOOSH! A beam of light shot straight up into the night sky.
The next morning, Maya woke to find her little brother, who had been too scared to sleep alone, peacefully sleeping in her room.
Luna had granted her wish, but more importantly, Maya had discovered something wonderful: sometimes the best magic comes from running toward adventure with a friend by your side.
And every night since, Maya still runs past that palm tree, knowing that somewhere between the stars and the earth, a friend made of starlight is running right beside her.
