The Girl Who Could Catch Lightning
Maya had the most unusual hair in her village. It wasn't just curly — it sparkled like tiny stars, and whenever storms rolled in, each curl would stand up and tingle with electricity.
"Don't go swimming when it rains," her grandmother always warned. "Your hair attracts lightning!"
But Maya loved swimming more than anything. Every day, she'd dive into the crystal lake behind her house, dancing with the fish and racing the dragonflies. The water felt like home, cool and embracing, like a friend who never judged her strange hair.
One afternoon, dark clouds gathered as Maya swam to the lake's deepest point. Suddenly, lightning flashed — not in the sky, but underwater! A tiny sea dragon surfaced, its scales glowing like trapped stars.
"Help me," the dragon squeaked. "I'm lost from my family, and I can't find the way home!"
Maya's hair crackled with energy. Another lightning bolt struck the water, and she realized her hair wasn't just attracting lightning — it could direct it! With gentle thoughts, she guided her electrified curls toward a dark underwater cave.
The lightning revealed a narrow tunnel leading to a secret grotto filled with bioluminescent creatures. The sea dragon's family was there!
"Thank you!" they sang, their voices like bubbles rising to the surface. "Your special hair saved us all. Never be ashamed of what makes you different."
Maya swam back to shore as the storm cleared, her heart full of warmth. From that day on, she wore her wild, lightning-catching hair with pride, knowing that what makes us strange can also make us magical.
And sometimes, on stormy nights, she still returns to the lake, where her old friend the sea dragon waits, ready for another adventure in the glowing depths.
