The Girl Who Combed Starlight

Lily had the most untamable hair in the world. Every morning, her brush would get stuck in the tangles, and her mother would sigh and say, "Your hair has a mind of its own!"

But Lily didn't mind. She loved her wild hair, because it reminded her of the way the wind danced through the trees behind her house.

One evening, while exploring the dusty attic, Lily discovered something strange—a thick, shimmering cable that seemed to glow from within. It peeked out from an old wooden chest, pulsing with soft golden light, like it was breathing.

Curious, Lily gave the cable a gentle tug. ZAP! A spark of starlight shot up her arm and made all the tiny hairs on her arms stand up, tingling like magic.

"Meow."

Lily jumped! A fluffy calico cat appeared on the chest, watching her with bright amber eyes that seemed to hold entire galaxies.

"You found the Star Cable," the cat said. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to touch it."

"You can talk!" Lily gasped.

"I'm Luna, keeper of the Star Bridge," the cat replied, puffing out her chest. "This cable connects your world to the Kingdom of Dreams, but it hasn't worked in a hundred years. Nobody believed anymore—until now."

Luna explained that the cable needed two things to work: someone who still believed in magic, and something precious to power it.

Lily thought hard. What did she have that was precious? Then she knew.

She reached up and pulled a single hair from her wild, wonderful head. It gleamed golden in the attic light. Luna purred approvingly and wound the hair around the cable's tip.

The cable flared with brilliant rainbow colors! Sparks shot through it like shooting stars, and suddenly, Lily could see images in the swirling light—children laughing, dragons flying, oceans of jellybeans.

"Every night," Luna explained, "you can send your dreams through the cable, and they'll become stories for children everywhere. But only if you promise never to stop believing."

Lily promised. And that night, as she brushed her wild hair before bed, she imagined an adventure. She watched her dream travel up the golden cable as sparkling starlight, knowing somewhere, another child was about to share her magic.

Now, whenever you see a shooting star, remember—it might be Lily's dream, traveling through the cable to find you.
