The Girl Who Caught Starfire

Ruby had the most wild hair in all of Willowbrook village. No matter how much her mother brushed it, it always puffed up like a golden cloud, especially when she was excited or happy. The other children sometimes teased her about her untamable hair, but Ruby didn't mind. She secretly loved how it made her feel like she was full of sunshine.

One stormy evening, Ruby sat by her window watching lightning crackle across the sky. She noticed something strange—tiny sparks seemed to dance toward her window, attracted to her hair like it was made of magnetic magic. As lightning flashed again, a glowing blue spark drifted inside and landed right on her palm.

"Oh!" Ruby gasped, staring at the tiny creature in her hand. It looked like a miniature person made of crackling light, no bigger than her thumb.

"Thank you, kind child," the tiny being sparkled. "I am Nova, a starfire sprite. I was blown away from my family during the storm."

Ruby's hair stood up even more with excitement, creating a warm, golden nest. "You're welcome here, Nova! But how will you get back home?"

"I need to catch the next lightning bolt back to the clouds," Nova explained. "But I'm too small to reach it alone."

Ruby thought carefully. She opened her palm wide and lifted it toward the window. "Climb onto my hand, and I'll raise you up!"

Nova carefully stepped onto Ruby's palm, and Ruby stretched her arm as high as she could. Her wild hair crackled with static, creating a ladder of golden sparks. Nova followed the sparks upward, and just as a lightning bolt flashed, Ruby's hair glowed brilliantly like a guiding beacon.

"Thank you!" Nova called, riding the lightning home.

From that night on, Ruby's hair became famous for a different reason—whenever storms came, she helped guide lost starfire sprites home. And whenever she raised her palm to the sky, her hair would glow with golden light, leading the little lightning creatures safely back to their cloud kingdom.

The children who once teased her now gathered around during storms, watching in wonder as Ruby's hair became a ladder of light. She had discovered that what made her different was actually her greatest gift—and that's exactly what made her special.
