The Garden Zombie's Secret
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon after school, he'd practice hitting balls in his backyard, dreaming of becoming a great player someday.
One sunny afternoon, Leo hit his favorite baseball so hard it sailed over the fence and into Mrs. Greenleaf's mysterious garden. The garden had always fascinated him – it was wild and overgrown, with plants that seemed to glow strangely at twilight.
"I'll just quickly get it," Leo thought, climbing carefully through the fence.
As he reached for his baseball, he heard something rustling. From behind a giant pumpkin plant, a green figure slowly emerged. It had leaves for hair and vine-like fingers.
"Are... are you a zombie?" Leo whispered, eyes wide.
The figure laughed. "No, silly! I'm Zed, the garden guardian. I'm made of enchanted spinach plants!"
Leo gasped. "Spinach? But spinach is just... vegetables."
"Not in Mrs. Greenleaf's garden!" Zed winked. "Here, everything is magical. Watch this!"
Zed plucked a glowing berry from a nearby bush. "This is a lightning berry. It gives you the energy of a whole meal in one tiny bite!"
Leo's eyes widened. "Like a super vitamin?"
"Exactly!" Zed smiled. "Want to see something really cool?"
Suddenly, storm clouds gathered overhead. CRACK! A bolt of magical lightning struck the garden's old oak tree. But instead of damaging it, the lightning made the tree bloom with golden flowers.
"The lightning makes the magic stronger!" Zed cheered. "Mrs. Greenleaf uses it to grow plants that can help people feel better when they're sick."
Leo understood. "That's why the garden is so special."
Zed nodded. "And now you know our secret. Will you help protect it?"
Leo grinned, picking up his baseball. "I'd love to. But first, want to play catch?"
From that day on, Leo visited the magical garden often, learning that the most wonderful discoveries can come from the most unexpected places – even from a zombie made of spinach.
