The Garden Zombie's Magic Hat

Lily was exploring her grandmother's garden when she spotted something strange behind the pumpkin patch. It was green and lumpy, swaying back and forth. Lily crept closer, her heart beating fast.

To her surprise, she saw a friendly-looking zombie wearing a bright purple hat with yellow stars. The zombie was not at all scary like in the movies. He had kind eyes and a gentle smile.

"Hello there," said the zombie softly. "My name is Zeb."

Lily gasped. "You're a zombie! But you're so... nice!"

Zeb chuckled and adjusted his purple hat. "Not all zombies are scary. I'm a garden zombie. I help flowers grow and make sure vegetables get enough sunshine."

He held out a piece of fruit. "Would you like an orange? I grow the sweetest ones in the whole garden."

Lily took the orange and peeled it. It was the most delicious thing she had ever tasted! "This is amazing!"

"Thank you!" Zeb beamed. "But I'm lonely. Everyone runs away when they see me. They don't understand that zombies can be kind too."

Lily felt sad for her new friend. "That's not fair. My grandma always says, 'Don't judge a book by its cover.' She means we should get to know people before deciding what they're like."

Zeb's eyes sparkled. "Exactly!"

"I have an idea!" Lily jumped up. She pulled her favorite colorful hat from her pocket — it had rainbows all over it. "Let's have a hat party! You wear your purple hat, I'll wear my rainbow hat, and we'll show everyone that zombies can be wonderful friends."

And that's exactly what they did. All the neighborhood children came to the garden. At first, some were scared, but when they saw Zeb's kind smile and tasted his magical oranges, everyone wanted to be his friend.

From that day on, Zeb was never lonely again. And Lily learned that the best friends sometimes come in the most surprising packages — even if they happen to be garden zombies wearing purple hats who grow the world's most delicious oranges.
