The Garden That Wouldn't Sleep
Lily loved her grandmother's garden more than anything in the world. Every afternoon after school, she'd skip through the gate to help water the tomatoes, sing to the sunflowers, and measure the pumpkins. But one cloudy Tuesday, something strange happened.
Gran pointed to a patch of wilted spinach leaves. 'These poor plants gave up during last night's storm,' she said sadly. 'Sometimes even the strongest things need help to grow again.' Lily felt her palm tingle with curiosity as she knelt beside the sad little leaves.
That night, Lily dreamed of a dancing spinach leaf that whispered to her. 'Try the magic water,' it sang. 'Behind the old palm tree, where moonlight sparkles like tiny stars.' Lily woke up before dawn and tiptoed outside, following the moon's silver path to the very back of the garden.
Sure enough, behind Gran's weathered palm tree, she found a tiny spring she'd never noticed before. The water glowed softly, as if someone had scattered moonbeams into a cup. Lily filled her watering can and hurried to the wilted spinach patch. 'Please wake up,' she whispered, sprinkling the magical water drop by drop.
What happened next made her gasp! The spinach leaves stretched, yawned, and perked up like little green umbrellas opening in the rain. Within minutes, they stood taller than ever, their leaves shimmering with an emerald glow. 'Zombie vegetables!' Gran laughed when she saw them. 'They've come back to life!' From that day on, Lily learned that nothing is ever truly gone forever – with love, patience, and a little magic, even the saddest things can bloom again.
