The Garden Splash
Leo swung his baseball bat with all his might. *Whack!* The ball sailed high into the sky, disappearing behind the old oak tree at the edge of his backyard. He chased after it, pushing through tall grass until something made him stop.
There, hidden in the dappled shade, was a pool of water he had never seen before. It shimmered with colors like a rainbow trapped in liquid. The water wasn't just sitting there—it was bubbling and swirling, almost as if it were dancing.
"Hello?" Leo whispered.
A small green head popped up from the water. It was a frog wearing what looked like a tiny baseball cap!
"You're finally here!" the frog croaked. "I'm Splash, guardian of the garden spring. Our garden magic is fading, and we need your help."
Leo's eyes widened. "Me? But I'm just a kid."
Splash hopped onto a lily pad. "The Queen of Gardenia loves three things above all else. Bring her what she loves, and our water will flow with magic again."
Leo nodded bravely. "What does she love?"
"The first gift," Splash said, "is something precious that brings you joy."
Leo thought carefully. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his lucky baseball—the one his grandpa had given him. It was scuffed and worn, but he loved it more than anything.
"The second gift," Splash continued, "must be something fresh from the earth."
Leo looked around and spotted the small garden patch where his mom grew vegetables. He ran over and plucked the biggest, greenest spinach leaf he could find.
"The third gift," Splash said, "must be a promise to care for the garden."
Leo placed his baseball and the spinach leaf beside the magical water. "I promise to help plant seeds, pull weeds, and never litter in the garden. I'll make sure every plant has water and sunshine."
Suddenly, the water began to glow. The baseball spun, and the spinach leaf unfurled into a bright green sail. A gentle breeze carried both gifts into the water, where they transformed into sparkling bubbles that floated upward and burst into showers of tiny, glowing butterflies.
"Thank you, Leo!" Splash cheered. "The garden is saved!"
The pool of water sparkled brighter than ever, and Leo could see new flowers blooming instantly around him.
From that day on, Leo visited the magical spring every day. He discovered that caring for the garden was its own kind of adventure—one where even something as ordinary as spinach or as simple as a baseball could become part of something wonderful.
And sometimes, when no one was looking, he swore he could hear Splash croaking a joyful: "Play ball!"
