The Garden's Sleepy Friend

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden. One sunny afternoon, she noticed something strange near the old pond. A slow-moving figure shuffled between the tomato plants, its wild, leafy **hair** tangled with morning glory vines.

"Don't be scared," her grandmother whispered, squeezing Lily's hand. "That's just Barnaby. He's not like the scary monsters in stories."

Barnaby moved like a **zombie** from storybooks, but instead of groaning, he hummed gentle tunes. His green skin matched the plants he tended, and his fingers were perfect for delicate work.

"What's he doing?" Lily whispered.

"Giving the garden a drink from the magical **water**." Her grandmother pointed to a shimmering blue pail Barnaby carried. "This water makes plants grow tall and strong."

Barnaby sprinkled water on wilted flowers, and they perked up instantly. He patted sunflowers with his leafy hair, and they stretched toward him like sleepy friends saying hello.

"He looks different, but he's our garden's best helper," grandmother explained. "Sometimes the most unusual creatures make the kindest friends."

Lily stepped closer. Barnaby turned slowly, his eyes twinkling like dewdrops. He offered her a perfect strawberry from his pocket.

"Thank you," she said, taking it with both hands.

Barnaby's leafy hair seemed to wiggle with happiness. From that day on, Lily learned that different wasn't scary—it was magical. Every afternoon, she'd visit Barnaby by the water, helping him tend the garden, and they became the most unexpected, wonderful friends.
