The Garden's Sleepy Friend

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden at midnight. That's when the magic happened.

One full moon night, she crept outside in her pajamas and followed the sound of splashing. Near the old stone fountain, she saw him – a lumpy green figure swaying back and forth, mumbling "brrraaaiiins" in a sleepy voice.

Lily gasped. A zombie!

But then she noticed something funny. The zombie wasn't scary at all – he was watering grandmother's spinach patch with a sparkly silver watering can. The **water** from the can glittered like liquid stars, making the **spinach** leaves glow emerald green.

Zummy nodded slowly. "Yes, but I'm a friendly zombie. I was a magical garden toy who came to life fifty years ago. I only wake up at night to tend the plants."

He showed Lily his secret – the starlight water made vegetables grow enchanted powers. The spinach could make you fly for five minutes if you ate it! Carrots made you understand animal language.

"But nobody ever comes to visit at night," Zummy sighed sadly. "They all think I'm scary."

"You're not scary at all!" Lily said. "You're magical!"

Every night that summer, Lily returned to help Zummy water the garden. They shared stories and adventures, and Zummy taught her the secret language of fireflies.

When school started, Lily had to say goodbye. But Zummy gave her a special gift – a pouch of enchanted spinach seeds. "Plant these wherever you go," he said. "And I'll always be your friend."
