The Garden's Sleepy Friend

Milo discovered the secret behind the old oak tree one sparkling Tuesday morning. There, between the daisies and dandelions, grew the most magnificent garden he had ever seen.

Pumpkins glowed like tiny moons. Tomatoes bounced gently to an invisible rhythm. But strangest of all was a patch of bright orange spinach that shimmered like sunset clouds.

"Don't be afraid," whispered a raspy but kind voice.

Milo gasped. Standing among the sunflowers was a green-skinned boy with vines for hair and flowers blooming from his pockets. He looked like something from storybooks—a zombie, but not scary at all.

"I'm Zed," the boy said. "I'm the garden keeper."

"You're a zombie!" Milo's eyes widened.

Zed nodded. "But I'm a friendly zombie. I help things grow. See this orange spinach? It's magical—one leaf gives you sweet dreams!"

Milo's iPhone buzzed in his pocket. He had been playing video games all morning, but suddenly the screen seemed boring compared to glowing vegetables and a zombie friend.

"Want to try some?" Zed offered.

Milo took a bite. Orange light sparkled in his mouth like fizzy honey. That night, he dreamed of dancing carrots and singing potatoes.

Every day after school, Milo visited Zed. They planted rainbow seeds, sang to the strawberries, and played hide-and-seek with the butterflies. Milo even showed Zed his favorite iPhone games, and Zed showed him how to listen to flowers whisper their secrets.

"Real magic isn't on screens," Zed said one day. "It's right here, in the dirt and sunshine and friendship."

Milo understood. The best adventures weren't behind glass—they were outside, waiting to be discovered.

And so, in a secret garden behind an old oak tree, a boy and his zombie friend grew something more magical than orange spinach. They grew a friendship that would last forever.
