The Garden's Not-So-Spooky Zombie
Lily loved her grandmother's garden more than anything in the world. Every Saturday, they would plant seeds together, water the colorful flowers, and watch butterflies dance in the sunshine. But one rainy afternoon, something strange happened.
As Lily helped Grandma harvest vegetables, she noticed something peculiar in the spinach patch. A small scarecrow, usually floppy and still, was slowly standing up! Its straw-stuffed arms waved gently, and its button eyes seemed to twinkle.
"Grandma! The scarecrow is... it's moving!" Lily gasped, hiding behind her grandmother's apron.
Grandma chuckled softly. "Oh, that's just Zomby. He's our garden zombie!"
"Z-Z-Zombie?" Lily squeaked. "But aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"
"Not in this garden," Grandma winked. "Zomby helps our plants grow tall and strong. Watch!"
To Lily's amazement, Zomby began to dance through the rows of vegetables. He did a silly wiggle that made the tomato plants blush redder. He spun around until the lettuce leaves curled with laughter. And when he reached the spinach patch, something magical happened.
Zomby reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of sparkling dust. As he sprinkled it over the spinach plants, the biggest, most beautiful leaves Lily had ever seen began to grow. They shimmered like emeralds!
"The spinach loves Zomby's magic dust," Grandma explained. "That's why our vegetables are the tastiest in town."
Suddenly, storm clouds gathered overhead. CRACK! A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating the garden in brilliant purple. The thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy.
Lily trembled. She had always been afraid of storms.
Zomby noticed her fear and did something surprising. He opened his straw arms wide and began to conduct the lightning like a beautiful symphony. Each flash became a sparkle, each rumble became a gentle rhythm. The storm wasn't scary anymore—it was a light show!
"See, Lily?" Grandma hugged her. "Even scary things can be beautiful if you look at them differently. And Zomby is here to help us see the magic in everything."
That night, Lily ate the most delicious spinach salad she had ever tasted. She realized that sometimes, things that seem strange or scary at first—like zombies and lightning—can bring wonderful surprises if you give them a chance.
And every Saturday after that, Lily couldn't wait to visit the garden. Not just for the flowers or the butterflies, but to see her friendly zombie friend who taught her that magic grows in the most unexpected places.
