The Garden of Magic Gifts
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house, especially the backyard garden filled with strange and wonderful plants. One rainy afternoon, as thunder rumbled overhead, Lily spotted something unusual near the papaya tree.
A tiny figure was shuffling between the rows of vegetables. At first, Lily thought it might be a stray cat, but as she crept closer, she gasped. It looked like a little zombie, but not the scary kind from movies — this one was made entirely of plants! Its head was a rotting pumpkin, its body was twisted vines, and instead of groaning, it made soft rustling sounds like leaves in the wind.
"Don't be afraid," whispered a voice. Lily looked down to see her grandmother smiling. "That's Zomby. He appears in my garden whenever there's a storm. He's not scary — he's magical!"
As if on cue, a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating Zomby's pumpkin face. But instead of looking frightening, the plant-zombie seemed to glow with warmth.
"Zomby has a special gift," her grandmother explained. "He brings things that people have lost, especially during thunderstorms."
Lily's eyes widened. "Like what?"
"Like this," Zomby seemed to say, reaching into his vine-body and pulling out something shiny. It was Lily's lost iphone! She had been so sad when she dropped it in the garden weeks ago.
"Thank you, Zomby!" Lily cried, giving the little plant creature a gentle hug. He didn't smell scary at all — he smelled like papaya and fresh earth.
Suddenly, Zomby pressed something else into Lily's hand — a perfect ripe papaya from her grandmother's tree. "For you," his rustling voice seemed to say. "Share with friends."
Lily realized then that Zomby wasn't a monster to fear. He was a friend who taught her something important: even the strangest-looking creatures can have the kindest hearts, and real magic happens when we share what we have with others.
As the storm cleared and a rainbow appeared, Zomby waved goodbye and dissolved into a swirl of magical leaves. Lily bit into her sweet papaya and knew she would never forget her unusual friend — the plant-zombie who taught her that kindness comes in all shapes and sizes.
