The Garden of Forgotten Friends
Lily discovered the secret garden behind her house on a Tuesday morning. Pushing aside tangled vines, she gasped. The garden was full of old, dusty toys that looked like they were sleeping. But then something magical happened — a toy soldier moved!
"We're the zombie toys!" the soldier announced. "We were forgotten, but the moon's magic woke us up!"
Lily wasn't scared. These weren't scary creatures — they were lonely friends who needed someone to care.
Her dog, Buster, bounded through the vines with a happy bark. His tail wagged so hard it swept dust off a toy castle. A ginger cat named Mittens followed, her emerald eyes wide with wonder. From the bushes, a clever fox peeked out, curious about the commotion.
"Friends!" the zombie teddy bear cheered. "Real friends!"
Lily's heart swelled. She learned something important that day: friends come in all shapes and sizes. Even forgotten things just need someone to believe in them.
Every afternoon, Lily returned with Buster, Mittens, and the fox (who she named Rusty). Together, they cleaned the garden and played magical games. The zombie toys told stories from long ago. Rusty the fox taught them forest games. Buster let the toys ride on his back. Mittens purred lullabies when the sun set.
Lily's mother asked why she spent so much time in the old garden.
"Making friends," Lily said simply. "The best kind — the ones who need you most."
The garden wasn't forgotten anymore. It was full of laughter, friendship, and magic. And every night, the zombie toys whispered, "Thank you," to the stars, grateful for the girl who saw that even old, dusty things deserve to be loved.
Because that's the truest magic of all — friendship can wake any heart.
