The Garden of Emerald Dreams
Toby hated spinach. Every Tuesday, his grandmother served him the green leaves, and every Tuesday, he pushed them around his plate.
"Eat your greens, little sprout," Grandma said with a wink. "These aren't ordinary spinach leaves. They're from the Dream Garden."
Toby rolled his eyes. But that night, he couldn't sleep. A strange glow pulsed from the kitchen window.
Curious, Toby crept downstairs. In the moonlight, he watched in wonder as the spinach patch in Grandma's garden began to shimmer. Each leaf unfurled like a tiny green umbrella, and inside every one sat a glowing emerald fairy no bigger than his thumb!
"We need your help, Toby!" squeaked the tiniest fairy. "The Great **Orange** at the heart of our garden has lost its glow. Without it, all dreams will fade!"
Toby's eyes widened. "But what can I do?"
"Take this." The fairy pressed something into his palm — a single golden droplet that looked exactly like a **vitamin" pill, but it shimmered with rainbow light. "This is concentrated sunlight. It will give you courage."
Toby swallowed it, and warmth spread through his chest. He felt braver than he'd ever felt before.
"Now," said the fairy, pointing to the old shed. "Bring the Keeper's **padel** racket. It has been passed through seven generations of dream guardians. It alone can awaken the Great Orange."
Toby found the ancient racket, its handle worn smooth by many small hands. As soon as he touched it, the garden seemed to expand. Ordinary plants transformed — sunflowers became golden lanterns, roses whispered lullabies, and a path of luminescent spinach leaves led him deep into the garden.
There, resting on a velvet moss bed, sat the Great Orange — once vibrant and glowing, now dull as a dusty stone.
"Tap it gently with the racket," the fairies chorused.
Toby brought the **padel** down softly. *Ping!* A single note of pure joy rang out. The Great Orange blazed to life, casting golden light across the garden. All the spinach fairies danced in celebration, their tiny wings casting emerald sparkles through the air.
"You did it!" Grandma's voice came from behind him. She smiled knowingly. "The Dream Garden has chosen its new guardian."
Toby looked at the spinach patch with new eyes. Some things are more than they seem — if you're brave enough to believe.
The next morning, Toby finished every leaf of spinach on his plate. Grandma just winked.
