The Garden Detective

waterspinachspy

Lily loved visiting her grandmother's garden more than anything in the world. Every Saturday, she would skip through the wooden gate, past the singing roses, and into the magical patch where vegetables grew bigger and brighter than anywhere else.

One sunny morning, Lily noticed something strange. The **water** in the watering can was sparkling like tiny stars! As she poured it onto the plants, droplets danced and giggled. "What's making my water so happy?" Lily wondered.

That's when she saw him—a tiny green man with leafy eyebrows, hiding behind a **spinach** leaf! He was peering out, curious and wide-eyed.

"Are you... are you a **spy**?" Lily whispered, kneeling down.

The little man shook his head. "I'm Sprout! I'm the garden guardian. I make sure all the vegetables grow strong and happy."

Lily's eyes grew round. "Really? I thought vegetables just... grew!"

"Oh no," Sprout said, climbing onto a spinach leaf. "They need kindness and magic! See this spinach? It grows extra-leafy when children are brave enough to try new things. And the carrots? They get crunchier when kids tell the truth!"

Lily thought for a moment. "I... I don't always like trying new foods."

Sprout smiled kindly. "That's okay! Being brave doesn't mean you're never scared. It means trying even when you ARE scared. Like how you talked to me even though you'd never seen a garden guardian before!"

Lily giggled. "That was pretty brave."

"Exactly!" Sprout twinkled. "Every time you try something new, or help someone, or tell the truth even when it's hard, the garden grows a little more magical."

Lily looked at the sparkling water can, then at the smiling spinach, and finally at her new friend. "Can I come back next week?"

"Every week," Sprout promised. "And bring your courage—the garden is always growing!"

Lily skipped home with a basket of vegetables, knowing that magic was real, and the bravest thing of all was simply trying something new.
