The Friendship Field

Leo loved baseball. Every Saturday, he played in his backyard with his orange cat, Mango. Leo would pitch the ball, and Mango would chase after it, pouncing and batting it around with soft paws.

One sunny afternoon, Leo hit a home run! The ball sailed over the fence and into the mysterious forest behind his house.

"I'll get it!" Leo called, with Mango trotting beside him.

Deep in the woods, they found something amazing. A clearing with a perfect baseball diamond, glowing with golden light.

And there was a giant brown bear, wearing a dusty baseball cap!

"Hello!" said the bear gently. "I'm Barnaby. Would you like to play?"

Leo's eyes widened. "You play baseball?"

"Every Saturday!" Barnaby boomed happily. "But today, my team is missing someone. Our zombie friend isn't feeling well."

From behind a tree shuffled a green figure. It was Zed the zombie - but he didn't look scary. He looked sad, with patches of fur falling off and stitches showing.

"Nobody wants to play with me," Zed mumbled. "They say I'm too slow and scary."

Leo smiled. "You're not scary! You're just different. Would you like to be on our team?"

Zed's eyes brightened. "Really? But... I can't run fast."

"That's okay!" said Leo. "Baseball needs all kinds of players. You can be our special catcher. Your big hands are perfect for catching balls!"

The game began. It was the most unusual baseball game ever - a boy, a cat, a bear, and a zombie. Mango meowed with joy as she ran around the bases, tail high. Barnaby hit massive home runs that shook the trees. Leo pitched his fastest balls. And Zed? Zed caught every single ball that came his way with his gentle green hands!

After the game, Barnaby pointed to a sparkling pond. "Time for the best part - swimming!"

They all jumped in - even Mango, who paddled happily. Zed was nervous about getting wet, but Leo held his hand. "It's okay, Zed. Friends help friends be brave."

Zed splashed into the water, laughing for the first time in forever. "I'm not scary at all!" he cheered. "I'm just a zombie who loves baseball and swimming!"

Leo learned something wonderful that day. True friends accept you exactly as you are - whether you're a boy, a cat, a bear, or even a zombie. The best teams are the ones that welcome everyone.

Every Saturday after that, Leo and Mango returned to the Friendship Field for magical games with Barnaby and Zed. And they all lived happily, playing together under the golden sun.
