The Friendly Zombie's Magic Oranges
Lily was the bravest girl in her class, but even she had never explored the old garden at the end of Maple Street. Her grandmother called it the Zombie Garden, though nobody had ever actually seen a zombie there. One sunny Saturday, Lily's orange baseball rolled right through the garden's rusty gate.
"I'll just run in and grab it," Lily told herself. She pushed the creaking gate open and stepped inside.
The garden was magical! Flowers glowed in every color imaginable, and butterflies left sparkling trails as they fluttered through the air. But the most wonderful sight was a little green man with patchy blue skin and purple hair, carefully watering orange trees.
"Hello there!" the little man called out in a squeaky, friendly voice. "I'm Zedd! Are you here to help me harvest my magic oranges?"
Lily blinked. "Are you... a zombie?"
"I'm a garden zombie!" Zedd said proudly. "Not the scary kind. I make things grow!"
Zedd explained that he used special plant vitamins to make the oranges extra magical. "Each orange has a different vitamin power," he said. "The red ones give you bravery. The yellow ones make you laugh. And the orange ones... well, those are the most special of all."
Lily helped Zedd gather baskets of oranges all afternoon. They sang songs and told silly jokes. When Zedd gave Lily an orange-colored orange, she felt warm all over.
"What does this one do?" she asked.
"It's the Friendship Vitamin," Zedd said with a smile. "It helps you see the good in everyone, even people who look different from you."
Lily bit into the orange. It was the sweetest thing she had ever tasted! Suddenly, she understood something important: Zedd wasn't scary at all. He was kind, hardworking, and the best friend she had ever made.
Lily visited Zedd every day after school. She even brought her classmates, who learned that garden zombies are wonderful. The oranges they shared helped the whole neighborhood become friendlier, braver, and happier.
Sometimes the best adventures start with something scary-looking that turns out to be magical. And sometimes, the most special friends are the ones you least expect to meet.
Lily kept her orange baseball, but she found something much more valuable that day: true friendship and the lesson that wonderful things can grow when you're brave enough to look beyond appearances.
