The Friendly Zombie Goldfish

Lily loved her goldfish, Goldie, more than anything in the world. Goldie was the most beautiful shade of orange, like a tiny sunset swimming in her fishbowl. Every day after school, Lily would sit by the bowl and make up stories about Goldie's underwater adventures.

One afternoon, Lily came home from school and found something strange. Goldie wasn't swimming in her bowl anymore. Instead, a tiny little creature was sitting on the windowsill, flopping around like a fish but walking on two little fins!

"Goldie?" Lily gasped.

The creature looked at her with googly eyes and opened its mouth. "Lily!" it squeaked in the tiniest voice. "I'm a zombie goldfish now!"

Lily couldn't believe it. "A zombie? But zombies are scary!"

Goldie shook her orange head. "Not all zombies are scary. I'm a friendly zombie! I can walk on land now, and I want to see the world! Will you help me explore?"

Lily's eyes sparkled with wonder. She'd always wanted to go on an adventure! "Yes! Let's go exploring!"

She placed Goldie in her backpack, and together they went running through the park. Goldie pointed out all sorts of amazing things – ladybugs dancing on flowers, clouds shaped like ice cream cones, and a family of ducks having a swimming race.

"The world is so beautiful!" Goldie exclaimed, her orange scales shimmering in the sunlight.

When they got tired, they sat under a big oak tree. Goldie looked at Lily with tears in her eyes. "Thank you for showing me the world, Lily. Being a zombie isn't so bad when you have a good friend."

Lily hugged her zombie goldfish friend. "That's what friends do – they help each other see magic everywhere."

That night, Goldie swam back into her bowl, but sometimes, when Lily was fast asleep, Goldie would climb out and practice her walking. Because the best adventures are the ones you share with a friend, no matter how unusual they might be!
