The Friendly Zombie by the Pool

Lily and Max were having the most boring summer ever. They sat by the old swimming pool in their backyard, staring at the cloudy water.

"I wish something magical would happen," Lily sighed, kicking her feet against the pool ladder.

Suddenly, Max noticed something glinting in the bushes. "What's that?"

They pulled out a long, colorful cable covered in sparkling lights. It seemed to hum with energy.

"It's not just any cable," whispered Lily. "I think it's magical!"

They followed the glowing cable as it snaked across the yard and disappeared right into the pool!

Max leaned over the edge. "Do you think we should... follow it?"

Before Lily could answer, the pool water began to swirl. Colors danced across the surface like a rainbow had melted into the water. Then, something rose from the depths.

Lily grabbed Max's arm. "It's a zombie!"

But this wasn't like any zombie they'd seen in movies. This creature was made entirely of glowing blue water, with seaweed hair and a smile that sparkled like sunshine on waves.

"Hello!" the water zombie bubbled. "I've been waiting for someone to find my magic cable! I'm Zola, and I've been stuck in this pool for three hundred years!"

"You don't look scary," said Max, stepping closer.

Zola laughed, and the sound was like splashing water. "Of course not! I'm a Water Spirit Zombie. The 'zombie' part just means I can leave my pool and walk on land for a little while. But I needed someone to pull my magic cable so I could come out!"

"We did it!" Lily cheered. "What do you want to do now that you're free?"

"I want to see the world!" Zola said, her eyes twinkling. "But first, would you like to see my underwater kingdom?"

The children looked at each other and nodded. Together, they held hands with Zola, and—SPLASH!—they dove into the most amazing adventure ever.

Lily and Max learned that sometimes, the things that seem scary at first can turn out to be the most wonderful friends. And all because they followed a magical cable to a pool where a lonely water zombie was just waiting for someone to say hello.
