The Friendly Pool Zombie

Lily peered into the sparkling blue pool, her toes wiggling at the edge. The water shimmered like diamonds in the afternoon sun. But today, something strange was happening.

Ripples moved across the surface even though no one had jumped in yet. Then, slowly, a greenish figure rose from the water. It had squishy skin and big, friendly eyes.

"I'm the pool zombie!" the creature said with a bubbly voice. "But don't worry - I'm not scary. I'm just lonely."

Lily's eyes went wide. She had heard stories about zombies, but this one seemed different. His smile was kind, and he offered her a floatie shaped like a flamingo.

"Want to play?" he asked hopefully.

"But... you're a zombie," Lily said. "Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"

The creature's smile faded. "That's what everyone thinks. But I love making pool parties more fun! I can make the perfect cannonballs and create the biggest splashes. I just need a friend to play with."

Lily thought about how lonely she felt when no one wanted to play with her at school. She remembered how it felt to be left out. Looking at the hopeful creature, she made her choice.

"I'll be your friend," she said with a smile. "But first, what's your name?"

"Zephyr!" he said happily. "Zephyr the Pool Zombie!"

That afternoon, they had the most amazing pool party. Zephyr taught Lily how to do the biggest splashes, and Lily taught Zephyr how to play Marco Polo. Other kids came over, and at first they were scared. But soon everyone was laughing and playing with their new zombie friend.

As the sun set, Lily learned an important lesson: sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend. And true friendship can be found in the most unexpected places - even at the bottom of a pool.
