The Friendly Pool Zombie
Lily loved swimming more than anything in the world. Every summer day, she would rush to her grandmother's backyard pool, diving into the cool, sparkling water. But today was different. Today, something magical was about to happen.
As Lily splashed into the pool, she noticed something strange at the bottom. A green figure was slowly rising through the water, moving in a funny, wobbly way. Lily froze. The stories her older brother had told her flashed through her mind—stories about pool zombies!
The creature broke the surface with a soft *bloop*. It had green skin, big friendly eyes, and the silliest smile Lily had ever seen. It wasn't scary at all!
"Hello!" the creature said, waving a webbed hand. "I'm Zim!"
"You're... you're a zombie!" Lily stammered, backing away slowly.
Zim laughed—a sound like bubbles popping. "People call me that because I sleep all winter and wake up in summer! Zombie means 'sleep-walker,' you know. But I'm really just a pool sprite! I live in the water and make sure children have fun swimming safely."
Lily's fear melted away. "You mean you're like a... a pool guardian?"
"Exactly!" Zim beamed. "Want to see my favorite trick?"
Suddenly, Zim dove deep into the water and created a magnificent rainbow of bubbles that rose all around Lily. They popped with tiny musical notes—*pling, plong, ping!* Lily giggled and started swimming alongside her new friend.
For hours they played—Zim taught Lily how to float like a leaf, how to dive without making a splash, and even how to blow perfect underwater bubble rings. The pool water felt warmer and more magical than ever before.
"I'm so glad I met you, Zim," Lily said as the sun began to set. "I almost swam away because I was scared."
Zim smiled gently. "That's the important lesson, Lily. Sometimes things seem scary just because they're different. But if you stay and learn the truth, you might find a wonderful friend."
Lily nodded, hugging her new friend. Every summer after that, she would return to the pool, and Zim would be waiting. And Lily never judged anything by its name or appearance again—because the best things in life often come in the most unexpected packages.
