The Friendliest Zombie at the Beach
Lily and Max were playing padel on the sunny beach court. The ball bounced back and forth as they laughed and ran. Lily hit the ball high, and it sailed over the fence toward the swaying palm trees.
"I'll get it!" Max called out, racing after the ball. But when he reached the palm grove, he stopped in his tracks. There, sitting in the shade, was the most unusual sight he had ever seen.
A green figure was sitting against a palm tree, watching them. It had messy hair and kind eyes, and it waved slowly.
"Lily! Come quick!" Max whispered. "There's a zombie!"
Lily came running, but instead of being scared, she smiled. "That's not a scary zombie. Look—he's smiling!"
The creature nodded. "I'm Zomby," he said in a friendly, creaky voice. "I'm not scary. I just love watching you play. It looks so fun!"
"Do you want to play?" Lily asked.
Zomby's eyes lit up. "Oh yes! But I don't know how."
Max handed him a padel racket. "It's easy! We'll teach you."
For the next hour, they played together. Zomby wasn't very good at first—he kept missing the ball and tripping over his own feet—but he laughed the whole time. The palm trees seemed to sway along with their joy.
"You're getting better!" Lily cheered when Zomby finally hit the ball over the net.
After the game, they were hot and tired. "Let's go swimming!" Max suggested.
Zomby looked worried. "I can't swim. I might sink because I'm... well, different."
Lily took his hand. "We'll stay in the shallow part. It'll be fun!"
In the sparkling blue water, they splashed and played. Zomby discovered that he could float perfectly on his back, looking up at the palm trees and the bright sky. For the first time in his long, lonely life, he felt like he belonged.
"Will you come back tomorrow?" Max asked as they dried off in the sun.
Zomby beamed. "Every single day. Being your friend is the best adventure ever."
That day, Lily and Max learned an important lesson: sometimes the things that seem different or scary at first might just be lonely friends waiting for someone to say hello. And from then on, every beach day included padel, palm trees, swimming, and their very favorite friend—the friendliest zombie in the world.
