The Fox With Magic Hair

foxgoldfishhair

Felix was a fox like no other. While other foxes had sleek, smooth orange fur, Felix's hair stuck out in every direction - curly, bouncy, and impossible to tame. Every morning, his mother tried to smooth it down with her paws, but it always sprang back up, wild and free.

The other young foxes giggled. "Look at Felix!" they'd say. "He looks like he stuck his paw in an electrical socket!" Felix hung his head and wished he could be normal.

One day, Felix ran deep into the forest until he found a secret pond he'd never seen before. In the middle swam the most beautiful goldfish he had ever seen. Her scales shimmered like tiny rainbows, and amazingly, she had long flowing strands of silver hair that drifted behind her in the water.

"Hello," said the goldfish. "I'm Glimmer. Why the long face?"

Felix told her about his unruly hair. Glimmer smiled. "Bring me one strand of your hair, and I'll show you something magical."

Felix pulled out a curl. As soon as it touched the water, it began to glow golden. Suddenly, the hair grew longer and longer, weaving itself into a beautiful net! Glimmer swam through it, delighted.

"Your hair isn't messy," Glimmer said. "It's magic! It can become anything you imagine."

Felix raced back to the fox den. When a baby bird fell from its nest, Felix's hair wove itself into a soft basket to catch it. When the winter winds blew cold, his hair fluffed up like a warm blanket for his little sister. When the streams flooded, his hair braided itself into a strong rope to help animals cross safely.

Soon, no one giggled at Felix anymore. They cheered instead! "Here comes Felix!" they cried. "The fox with the magic hair!"

Felix finally understood. Being different wasn't bad at all. Sometimes, the very things that make us unusual are the things that make us wonderful. And somewhere deep in the forest, Glimmer the goldfish swam in her rainbow pond, smiling at the friend who had learned to love himself exactly as he was.
