The Fox Who Wished for Too Much
Felix was a curious little fox with fur the color of autumn leaves. Every day, he explored the forest, looking for adventure. One afternoon, he discovered something he had never seen before—a palm tree growing right in the middle of the enchanted forest!
"How strange," Felix whispered, circling the tree with its long, green fronds swaying gently in the breeze. "Palm trees only grow in warm places far away."
As he stepped closer, a tiny voice spoke from above. "You're right, little fox. I'm a magical palm tree, brought here by a wish long ago."
Felix looked up to see a sparkling blue bird perched among the palm leaves. "I can grant you one wish," the bird continued. "Choose wisely."
Felix's eyes grew wide. He thought about all the things he wanted. But then he remembered his friend Shimmer, a lonely goldfish who lived in a small pond nearby. Shimmer had no one to play with.
"I wish for a friend for Shimmer the goldfish!" Felix declared.
The blue bird chirped with delight. "A wish for another is the most powerful wish of all."
Suddenly, the pond began to shimmer and glow. When the light faded, not one but ten goldfish appeared, all swimming happily together. Shimmer zoomed around, chasing and playing with her new friends.
Felix felt his heart fill with joy. But then the palm tree rustled again. "Because you wished for someone else's happiness, you have earned a bonus wish for yourself."
Felix thought carefully. He could wish for anything—more food, a cozy den, a shiny new coat. But looking at the happy goldfish, he realized something.
"I don't need anything else," Felix said with a smile. "My wish already came true. Making Shimmer happy made me happier than any wish just for myself."
The magical palm tree glowed golden. "You have learned the greatest secret of all, little fox. The best wishes are the ones we give away."
From that day on, Felix visited Shimmer and her friends every day. The fox, the palm tree, and all the goldfish became the best of friends. And whenever someone asked Felix about the magical tree, he would simply say, "It's not magic at all. It's just friendship— the most powerful magic in the world."
