The Fox Who Wasn't a Zombie
Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she found something strange near the old oak tree—a little fox with messy, tangled orange fur.
"Poor thing," Lily whispered. The fox looked at her with big brown eyes. His fur stuck up everywhere like he'd just woken up from a very long nap. He looked a bit like a zombie fox, all rumpled and slow, but Lily wasn't scared. She knew appearances could be deceiving.
"I'm Finn," the fox said, making Lily jump. "I haven't been able to properly groom my hair—well, my fur—for weeks."
"Why not?" Lily asked.
"The Enchanted Stream is where I usually swim to clean my fur," Finn explained sadly. "But the bridge collapsed, and I can't reach it anymore. Without swimming in those magical waters, my fur gets all tangled and heavy."
Lily's eyes lit up. "I know how to swim! We could find another way."
Hand in paw, they set off together. The forest was beautiful—sunlight dancing through leaves, butterflies floating like colorful dreams. They reached the stream, but the broken bridge was too wide to jump.
"What now?" Lily wondered.
Finn's nose twitched. "Smell that? Those glowing berries over there—those are magic vitamin berries! They give you special powers."
They ate the bright purple berries together. Suddenly, Lily felt light as a feather, and Finn's messy fur began to smooth out magically.
"I feel so strong!" Lily exclaimed. "Let's try crossing now!"
With her new strength and Finn's renewed energy, they leaped across the stream together. They spent the afternoon playing in the magical waters, laughing and splashing. Finn's fur became beautiful and shiny again.
"Thank you, Lily," Finn said. "You didn't judge me by how I looked. You saw me, not just a messy fox."
Lily smiled. "That's what friends do."
From that day on, Lily and Finn were best friends. And whenever someone looked different or strange, Lily remembered: true friends see with their hearts, not just their eyes.
