The Fox Who Spied on Raindrops

foxspywaterrunning

Felix was a small orange fox with the biggest ears anyone had ever seen. The other foxes laughed at him. "What good are giant ears?" they would say. But Felix didn't mind. His ears could hear things no one else could.

One hot summer day, while running through the forest, Felix heard something strange. *Drip. Drop. Plink.* Water! But where? The stream had dried up weeks ago.

Felix followed the sound, his paws silent on the dry leaves. He crept closer and peeked through the bushes. There he saw the most amazing thing — a tiny blue fairy, crying tears that turned into sparkling water droplets as they fell.

"Why are you sad?" Felix asked.

The fairy looked up. "I'm the last Water-Spy," she sniffled. "I spy on clouds to find rain for the forest, but I'm too small to reach the high ones now. The forest will dry up!"

Felix's big ears twitched. He had an idea. "What if I help you? I can climb trees!"

The fairy's eyes lit up. "Really?"

Together they made a plan. Felix would carry the Water-Spy up the tallest pine tree, and she would spy on the clouds to find rain.

Running up the tree, Felix felt the warm bark beneath his paws. When they reached the top, the fairy fluttered above him. She closed her eyes and listened. *Whoosh. Whoosh.*

"There!" she pointed. "A rain cloud sleeping behind the mountain!"

Felix shouted to all the animals, "Wake the cloud! Wake the cloud!" The birds sang, the bears roared, and even the grumpy badger chattered. The noise drifted up and woke the cloud.

*Pitter-patter. Splash. Rain!* The forest celebrated.

That night, Felix's ears twitched with pride. The other foxes didn't laugh anymore. They knew Felix's big ears had saved them all.

And sometimes, if you listen very carefully, you can still hear Felix and the Water-Spy, running through the forest, always looking for the next rain cloud to help their friends.
