The Fox Who Spied on Lightning
Fiona was a small red fox with very big ears and an even bigger curiosity. While other foxes slept, Fiona loved **running** through the moonlit forest, her paws dancing over fallen leaves like tiny drumbeats.
"You're such a little **spy**," her grandmother would say with a wink. "Always watching, always wondering."
Fiona didn't mind. She loved spying on the forest's secrets—the way owls blinked sleepily at stars, how flowers curled their petals tight like sleeping babies, and the mysterious path where fireflies danced in swirling golden patterns.
One stormy night, Fiona saw something amazing. Jagged streaks of **lightning** flashed across the sky, painting the clouds in brilliant purples and greens. But this time, she noticed something no one else had seen—each lightning bolt left behind a tiny, glowing spark that drifted down to earth like a fallen star.
The sparks were frightened! They flickered and trembled, lost in the dark forest.
Fiona's heart hurt for them. Without thinking, she began running again, leaping over logs and splashing through puddles. She gathered each frightened spark on her soft tail, where they clung like glowing dewdrops.
"Follow me!" she barked softly to the shivering lights.
She led them to the highest hill in the forest, where an old oak tree stretched its branches toward the sky. Fiona climbed carefully, carrying her precious cargo. One by one, she placed each spark on the highest leaves, where they could find their way home.
The sparks twinkled with gratitude, then shot upward, trailing silver ribbons behind them. As they rejoined the sky, the clouds parted, revealing more stars than Fiona had ever seen.
The other forest animals had watched everything. They gathered around Fiona, their eyes wide with wonder.
"You saved the lightning sparks!" whispered a rabbit. "That was the bravest thing we've ever seen."
Fiona blushed under her orange fur. She wasn't a spy anymore. She was a friend, a helper, a keeper of magic.
From that night on, whenever lightning flashed across the sky, Fiona would smile. She knew that somewhere up there, her spark friends were dancing among the stars, and they were never, ever alone.
And sometimes, if you look very carefully during a storm, you might see a little red fox running through the rain, her tail glowing with tiny sparks, still saving magic, one spark at a time.
