The Fox Who Saw With His Heart

Felix was no ordinary fox. His fur shimmered like copper in the sunlight, and his emerald eyes saw things other animals missed. He lived at the edge of Whispering Woods, where magic danced through the trees like invisible fireflies.

One moonless night, Felix heard a strange sound. *Drag. Thump. Drag.* His nose twitched. Someone—or something—was stumbling through the forest. Felix's friends had warned him about creatures that came out at night, but curiosity twinkled in his bright eyes.

He crept through the ferns until he saw it: a zombie, moving stiff and slow, its arms stretched forward. But this zombie wasn't like the ones in scary stories. It wore a patchy coat and a floppy hat that kept sliding over its eyes. Felix noticed something else—the zombie was crying.

"Please," it rasped. "Can anyone help me find my way home?"

Felix's heart did a little flip. He stepped into the moonlight. "I can help."

The zombie gasped. "A talking fox!"

"I'm Felix. What's your name?"

"Barnaby," the zombie whispered sadly. "I got lost in the woods three days ago. I'm so slow, and I'm scared of the dark."

Just then, lightning cracked the sky, illuminating Barnaby's face. Felix gasped. Barnaby wasn't a zombie at all—he was a regular boy, but his skin looked gray and sickly, and his movements were stiff. The lightning revealed something glowing around Barnaby's neck: a dark amulet pulsing with purple light.

"That amulet!" Felix cried. "It's cursed!"

Barnaby's eyes widened. "I found it in the woods. I thought it was pretty..."

"It's making you look scary and slowing you down," Felix explained. "But I can help. My grandfather told me about the Lightning Flower—it blooms only during storms, and its glow breaks dark magic."

Another bolt of lightning flashed, and Felix spotted it: a silver flower petals, glowing with electric blue light. "Quick! Take it off!"

Barnaby fumbled with the amulet. As the lightning flashed again, Felix knocked the amulet away with his paw. The flower's glow swallowed the purple light.

POOF!

Barnaby's skin turned pink again. He could move freely. He laughed—and hugged Felix.

"You're my best friend," Barnaby said. "You saw me, not what I looked like."

Felix grinned, his copper fur shining. "Grandfather Fox always says: The best magic is seeing with your heart, not your eyes."

And that's how Felix the fox learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend—and a little lightning—to show who they really are.
