The Fox Who Saved the Moon
Fiona was a clever little fox with fur the color of autumn leaves. Every night, she would climb to the top of the grassy pyramid near her village and watch the moon rise. The pyramid was ancient, with steps worn smooth by thousands of paws over thousands of years.
One evening, as Fiona reached the top, she saw something strange. A grumpy old bull named Barnaby was sitting on the pyramid's highest step, looking sad.
"What's wrong, Barnaby?" Fiona asked, her fluffy tail twitching with curiosity.
"The moon is stuck!" Barnaby moaned. "It's halfway up the sky and won't move. Without the full moon, the fireflies can't dance, and the night flowers won't bloom. My grandchildren are waiting for the moon-light parade!"
Fiona looked up. Sure enough, the moon was glowing dimly, caught in the branches of a sleepy zombie tree. Zombie trees were ancient guardians that only woke up when the moon was full. But this one had awakened early and accidentally tangled its branches around the moon!
"I know what to do!" Fiona said bravely. "I'll climb the zombie tree and untangle the moon. Barnaby, will you help me?"
The bull shook his huge head. "I'm too heavy to climb. But I can give you a boost!"
Barnaby lowered his strong back, and Fiona scrambled up. From the bull's shoulders, she leaped gracefully onto the lowest branch of the zombie tree. The tree groaned and its leaves shimmered like silver stars.
"Please let the moon go," Fiona said gently. "The children need their parade."
The zombie tree understood. Its branches slowly uncurled, releasing the moon. It floated upward, growing brighter and brighter until it filled the night sky with silver light.
Fireflies danced. Night flowers bloomed with rainbow colors. And down below, Barnaby's grandchildren began their moon-light parade.
Fiona slid down the tree, and Barnaby caught her safely.
"Thank you, Fiona," the bull said warmly. "You're small, but you have the biggest heart."
Fiona smiled. "Sometimes the smallest friends do the biggest things."
And every full moon after that, Fiona and Barnaby would sit together on the pyramid, watching fireflies dance and knowing that even the grumpiest bull and the littlest fox could be best friends—and save the moon together.
