The Fox Who Saved Summer

Lily loved summer days. She loved the warm sun on her face and the cool water of the pond behind her house. Most of all, she loved swimming in that pond, even though her mom said she was too small to go alone.

One afternoon, Lily sat by the pond, playing on her mom's old iPhone. She was pretending to take pictures of frogs when suddenly — CRACK! A twig snapped behind her.

Lily turned around and gasped. A beautiful red fox stood there, watching her with bright amber eyes. But this wasn't just any fox. The fox's fur shimmered like sunlight on water, and when it spoke, Lily could understand every word.

"You shouldn't be here alone," said the fox kindly. "But since you are, I'll be your friend. My name is Ember."

Lily's curly brown hair stood on end with excitement. A talking fox! This was better than any storybook.

"I was just taking pictures," Lily whispered. "Do you want to see?"

Ember the fox looked at the iPhone and smiled. "That's a magic box, but it doesn't know REAL magic yet. Would you like me to show you?"

Lily nodded so hard her head wobbled.

Ember touched the iPhone with his nose. Suddenly, the screen glowed golden. Through it, Lily could see tiny fairies dancing on the lily pads. She could hear the fish singing. She could feel the magic shimmering in the air around them.

"Wow!" Lily breathed. "Can we go swimming together? I promise to hold your paw."

Ember laughed. "Foxes don't swim, little one. But I can make the water carry you like a leaf."

And that's exactly what happened. Lily floated on the surface of the pond, light as a feather, while Ember walked along the bank, keeping her safe. They watched the sunset paint the sky pink and orange, and Lily felt braver than she ever had before.

When Lily's mom called her for dinner, Ember whispered, "Come back tomorrow. Magic is always waiting for friends."

Lily ran home with her wet hair sticking up everywhere, the iPhone tucked safely in her pocket. She couldn't wait for tomorrow's adventure.

That night, Lily learned something important: the best magic isn't in machines or movies. The best magic is having a brave heart and true friends — even if one of them happens to be a very special fox.
