The Fox Who Painted the Moon

Felix was a small fox with fur the color of autumn leaves. He lived near the Singing River, where the water sparkled like diamonds under the sun. Every evening, Felix watched the moon rise and dreamed of painting it beautiful colors.

One night, an orange butterfly landed on Felix's nose. "Follow me," she seemed to say with her fluttering wings. Felix followed her deep into the forest until they reached a hidden pond. The water there glowed with a soft, magical light.

"This is the Moon Pond," whispered the butterfly. "Whatever you paint here appears on the real moon in the sky."

Felix's tail twitched with excitement. He dipped his paw into the glowing water and mixed it with orange marigold petals growing nearby. Together, he and the butterfly painted swirling patterns of orange light across the pond's surface.

Above them, the real moon began to glow orange for the first time ever.

Other animals gathered to watch—badgers, rabbits, even a grumpy old bear. They had never seen such a beautiful moon. Felix felt proud, but then he noticed something sad. The butterfly's wings had faded to gray.

"I used all my color to help you paint," she said weakly. "Now I cannot fly home."

Felix knew what he must do. He dipped his tail into the orange-painted water and gently brushed it over the butterfly's wings. Her beautiful orange returned, brighter than before.

But now the moon was plain again.

"Thank you, Felix," said the butterfly. "You gave up something beautiful to help a friend. That's the most beautiful color of all."

She flew up, up, up, leaving trails of orange sparkles behind her. Those sparkles floated up to the moon, making it glow orange forever more.

Now every full moon, animals gather to remember the fox who learned that true beauty comes from kindness. And somewhere in the forest, a small orange butterfly still visits her friend Felix, and together they paint new colors into the world.
