The Fox Who Loved Tag

Leo's favorite game was zombie tag. Every Saturday, he and his friends transformed into wobbly-armed zombies, chasing each other across the park until someone got tagged and had to join the zombie army.

One afternoon, Leo was running—a slow, shambling zombie run—when he spotted something orange near the old oak tree. A fox! Its fur gleamed like autumn leaves, and its curious brown eyes watched Leo's zombie performance with what looked like amusement.

Instead of darting away like most wild animals, the fox crept closer. It tilted its head, studying Leo's outstretched arms and groaning "Brraaains!"

Leo froze. The fox seemed lonely, just like he had been before making friends at the park. Carefully, he lowered his zombie arms and sat in the grass. The fox crept forward until it was right beside him, its fluffy tail wrapped around its paws.

"I'm Leo," he whispered. "Want to play zombie tag?"

Amazingly, the fox seemed to understand. When Leo stood and began his zombie walk, the fox trotted alongside, occasionally giving a little yip that sounded suspiciously like a zombie moan.

They spent the afternoon playing together—Leo shambling and the fox weaving between his legs. When Leo's friends called him back for birthday cake, the fox nudged his hand with its soft nose before disappearing into the woods.

Every Saturday after that, Leo's fox friend would appear, ready for their special game. The other kids thought it was magical how wild animals loved Leo. But Leo knew the truth: friendship wasn't about how you looked or moved—it was about taking time to truly see each other.

Sometimes, when the sun set and Leo headed home, he'd spot a flash of orange near the trees. And he'd smile, knowing his zombie buddy would be waiting for next week's adventure.
