The Fox Who Loved Baseball

Lily loved **running** through the meadow behind her house, especially on sunny Saturday mornings. The grass tickled her bare feet as she sprinted toward her favorite spot under the old oak tree, where she kept her most precious treasure: a **baseball** her grandfather had given her.

One day, while practicing her swing, Lily hit the ball so hard it sailed into the nearby forest. She chased after it, pushing aside tall ferns and ducking under branches until she reached a sparkling stream. The **water** bubbled over smooth stones, singing a happy song as it rushed along.

That's when she saw him—a scruffy orange **fox** with the brightest eyes she'd ever seen. But something was strange. The fox was holding her baseball in his mouth, and when he tried to drop it at her feet, the ball would suddenly roll back to him! Again and again, the fox tried to return her ball, but it kept bouncing back like it had a mind of its own.

"It's a **zombie** baseball!" Lily giggled. The fox tilted his head, confused, but his tail wagged excitedly. Lily realized the ball wasn't haunted at all—the fox just didn't want to let it go. He'd never seen anything so fun!

"Do you want to play?" Lily asked. The fox's ears perked up.

She showed him how to toss the ball back and forth. At first, the fox used his nose, but soon he learned to gently pick it up and toss it with his mouth. They played until sunset, laughing whenever the fox did a silly little hop after catching the ball.

As the sky turned purple, Lily knew she had to go home. The fox looked sad, so she did something surprising—she left her baseball with him.

"You need it more than I do," she whispered. "Practice until tomorrow."

The fox did a happy spin, clutching the baseball like it was made of gold.

Every day that summer, Lily ran to the stream to play baseball with her fox friend. And every time, the magical zombie ball brought them together, proving that the best games are the ones you share with unexpected friends.
