The Fox Who Found a Friend

Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon after school, he'd grab his favorite bat—the one with the chipped blue paint—and practice in the backyard. But today, something strange happened.

As Leo tossed the ball up, a flash of orange darted past. A fox! Not just any fox, but one with the brightest fur Leo had ever seen, like a tiny sunset come to life. The fox caught the ball in its mouth and trotted into the woods behind Leo's house.

"Hey! That's my ball!" Leo called, grabbing his bat and following.

The woods were magical—sunlight filtered through leaves like golden sprinkles, and the air smelled like adventure. Leo followed the fox deeper and deeper until he reached a clearing he'd never seen before.

There, sitting on an old tree stump, was someone Leo had only heard about in stories. A zombie!

But this wasn't a scary zombie like in movies. This zombie had kind green eyes, wore a baseball cap just like Leo's, and was clumsily trying to toss the ball to himself.

"I'm Benny," the zombie said softly. "I've been watching you play. You're really good."

The fox, whose name was Copper according to Benny, sat between them, tail wagging happily.

"I'm not scary," Benny continued. "I'm just... lonely. Everyone runs away before they can meet me."

Leo's heart felt warm. He knew what it was like to feel left out. "Want to play catch?" Leo asked, holding up his glove.

Benny's face lit up—literally, with a little sparkly glow. For the next hour, the three of them played baseball together. Benny wasn't very good, but he tried his best and laughed every time he missed. Copper cheered from the sidelines, barking joyfully whenever someone made a good throw.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in pinks and purples, Leo realized something wonderful. Sometimes, the scariest-looking things turn out to be the best friends. And sometimes, a fox stealing your baseball is exactly what you need to find magic in unexpected places.

"Same time tomorrow?" Benny asked hopefully.

"Absolutely," Leo grinned. "But maybe I'll bring two balls this time."

Walking home with Copper skipping beside him, Leo knew this was just the beginning of the most amazing friendship ever.
