The Fox Who Fixed My Hair
Chloe stared at the mirror, tears blurring her reflection. The DIY bleaching kit had promised sun-kissed highlights, but instead her dark hair now looked like straw—brittle, orange, and completely wrecked two days before homecoming.
"I can't go like this," she groaned to Maya, her best friend since seventh grade. "Everyone's going to notice."
Maya, who everyone called "the fox" because she could wiggle out of anything, leaned against the bathroom doorframe. "You're literally spiraling. We can fix this."
"How? I look like I stuck my head in a Cheeto bag!"
Their conversation was interrupted by Jayden—the absolute bear of the football team, all six-foot-three of him—stumbling into the girls' bathroom (wrong floor, obviously). He froze, Chloe's disaster hair on full display.
"Uh..." He scratched the back of his neck. "You need help? My sister does hair."
Chloe and Maya exchanged glances. This was weird, but desperate times...
That afternoon found Chloe in Jayden's basement, his sister Kira expertly applying toner while the football bear surprisingly knew way too much about hair care. "Coconut oil treatments saved my curls after I tried to go platinum freshman year," he admitted, scrolling through his phone with massive thumbs.
By homecoming night, Chloe's hair fell in perfect caramel waves. Kira had worked magic. But the real magic? The bear-turned-ally who'd somehow become her plus-one, and Maya watching from the sidelines with that knowing fox grin—like she'd planned it all along.
Some hair disasters don't just fix your hair. They fix everything.
