The Fox Who Danced With Lightning
Finnegan was a small orange fox with a very big problem. He was terrified of storms. Every time dark clouds gathered, he would hide trembling in his burrow until the sun came back out.
One rainy afternoon, Finnegan scurried toward his favorite hiding spot near an old stone fountain. But something made him pause. In the fountain's shallow water swam the most beautiful goldfish he had ever seen, with scales like tiny drops of sunshine.
"Hello, little friend," the goldfish bubbled, surfacing near the edge. "I'm Cleo. Why do you look so frightened?"
"The lightning," Finnegan whispered, ducking as a bright flash split the sky. "It's too loud and too bright."
Cleo swam closer. "But lightning is magic! Would you like to see why?"
Before Finnegan could answer, the biggest lightning bolt he had ever seen struck the fountain's weather vane. Instead of running, Finnegan watched in amazement as tiny ripples of light danced across the water. Cleo began to glow, her golden scales shimmering like a hundred tiny stars.
"Touch the water," Cleo said gently.
Finnegan hesitated, then dipped one paw into the glowing pool. Suddenly, he could see something amazing — each lightning bolt was painting pictures across the sky! Dragons, castles, rivers of light, all appearing for just a moment before fading away.
"The lightning brings us light shows," Cleo explained. "It only seems scary because you're hiding from it."
Finnegan's fear melted away. He sat by the fountain, watching the storm's beautiful artwork with his new friend. For the first time in his life, he didn't want the storm to end.
From that day on, whenever thunder rumbled across the meadow, Finnegan the fox would rush to the fountain. And there, with Cleo the goldfish swimming in glowing water, he learned that sometimes the things we fear most are actually the most wonderful things of all — we just need a friend to help us see them differently.
