The Fox Who Collected Lightning
Fennec was no ordinary fox. His bright orange hair stuck out in every direction, poofy and wild like a dandelion gone to seed. Other foxes had sleek, smooth fur that glistened in the sun. But not Fennec.
"You look like you were struck by lightning!" the other foxes would giggle. Fennec would hang his head and scurry into the forest, where he felt safe.
One rainy afternoon, Fennec discovered something extraordinary. In a hollow beneath an ancient oak tree, he found glowing blue berries. They pulsed like tiny stars. An old owl perched above spoke: "These are thunder berries—a special vitamin from the sky. They appear only when lightning kisses the earth."
Fennec's eyes grew wide. He ate one and felt warmth spread through his paws. His messy hair began to sparkle!
Suddenly, the sky darkened. Storm clouds gathered. CRACK! Lightning flashed too close to the forest floor. A baby rabbit trembled in fear, trapped near a fallen branch.
Without thinking, Fennec rushed forward. His wild hair stood straight up, catching the lightning's energy. ZAP! The bolt struck him, but instead of hurting, it flowed through his sparkly fur and safely into the ground. The rabbit was saved.
"My hair isn't messy," Fennec realized, watching it glow. "It's a lightning rod!"
After that day, Fennec wore his wild hair proudly. Whenever storms came, he stood guard, his special fur protecting all the forest creatures. The other foxes stopped giggling and started cheering.
Sometimes the things that make us different are exactly what make us magical.
