The Fox Who Caught Lightning
Flicker was no ordinary fox. His fur was the color of a ripe orange, gleaming like sunshine in the forest. But the most special thing about him was the hair on his tail – it sparkled with tiny lights, as if someone had sprinkled stars there while he slept.
One stormy evening, Flicker sat under his favorite palm tree, watching the sky dance. Bolts of lightning streaked across the dark clouds, painting the night in brilliant flashes of purple and white. Most animals hid during storms, but not Flicker. He loved the magic of weather.
"I wish I could catch lightning," he whispered, holding his palm up toward the sky.
Suddenly, a small bolt of lightning did something amazing. It didn't hit the ground – it danced toward him, swirling like a glowing ribbon. It hovered right above his paw, tiny and harmless, like a captured firefly.
Flicker's heart beat fast. The little lightning bolt seemed curious, bobbing closer. Carefully, the fox extended his palm, and the lightning settled there, no bigger than a marble. It felt warm, like holding a piece of summer.
But Flicker knew lightning couldn't stay with him forever. It belonged in the sky, painting storms for everyone to see. So he made a decision – he would help his new friend return home.
Climbing to the highest branch of his palm tree, Flicker stood on his hind legs. His orange fur stood on end as he stretched his palm toward the clouds.
"Go home now," he called softly. "But visit me whenever you want!"
The little lightning bolt swirled upward, growing larger as it rejoined the storm. For a moment, the whole sky flashed brighter than ever, as if saying thank you.
That night, Flicker's tail hair glowed more brilliantly than ever. And now, whenever storms come to the forest, a tiny bolt of lightning dances near his palm tree, visiting its best friend.
