The Fox Who Caught Lightning

Felix was a small fox with the brightest orange fur in the entire Whispering Woods. Every morning, he would carefully groom his hair until it gleamed like polished pumpkins in the sunlight. But Felix had a secret wish — he wanted to play baseball with the children who lived in the cottage at the edge of the forest.

One summer evening, as Felix watched from behind a tall oak tree, he saw something magical happen. The children were playing baseball when suddenly the sky turned dark purple. A bolt of lightning shot down from the clouds and landed right in the middle of their field! But it wasn't scary — the lightning crystallized into a glowing ball that pulsed with gentle warmth.

The children were afraid and ran home, all except for a little girl named Lily. She stayed behind, trembling but curious. Felix emerged from his hiding place, his orange fur standing out against the darkening sky.

"Don't be afraid," Felix said softly. To his surprise, Lily didn't run. Instead, she smiled.

"You're the fox I've seen watching us," she said. "Do you want to play?"

Felix's heart soared. Together, they discovered that the lightning ball was special — whenever someone threw it, tiny sparks would dance around it like fireflies. Lily taught Felix how to hold a baseball bat, and he showed her all the secret paths through the forest.

They played until the stars came out, the lightning ball illuminating their friendship. When Lily had to go home for dinner, she hid the ball under the old oak tree.

"Same time tomorrow?" Felix asked, his orange tail wagging.

"Every day," Lily promised.

And so, the fox and the girl became the best of friends, proving that the most magical things happen when you're brave enough to say hello.
