The Fox Who Caught Lightning

Lila loved storms. While other children hid under blankets when thunder rattled their windows, she pressed her nose against the glass, watching for flashes of light.

One rainy afternoon, a bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree in Lila's backyard. When the smoke cleared, something moved among the fallen branches. Lila ran outside in her yellow rainboots.

There sat a small fox with fur the color of autumn leaves, holding something glowing in its mouth. The fox's eyes sparkled like stars.

"You caught lightning!" Lila whispered.

The fox nodded and dropped the glowing ball into Lila's hands. It was warm and pulsed with light, like a tiny heartbeat.

"I'm Finn," the fox said. "And this is the last piece of starlight that fell from the sky during the storm. Want to see something magical?"

Lila had never met a talking fox before, but she nodded eagerly.

Finn led her to a secret pond hidden behind blackberry bushes. "This is where the stars come swimming every night," he explained.

He placed the starlight in the water. Suddenly, the pond began to glow. Hundreds of tiny starfish emerged from the depths, their shells shimmering like diamonds. Fireflies danced above the water, painting patterns in the air.

"Sometimes," Finn said softly, "the most beautiful things hide during storms. You just need a friend who knows where to look."

Lila and Finn spent the whole afternoon there, watching the stars swim in circles, leaving trails of light wherever they went. They shared stories and laughed as the starlight made rainbows in the water.

When evening came, Finn curled up beside Lila. "Will you come back tomorrow?"

"Every storm," Lila promised, hugging her new friend.

As Lila ran home, she realized something wonderful: she had found magic in her own backyard, friendship in unexpected places, and the courage to look for beauty even in the darkest weather.

From then on, whenever lightning flashed across the sky, Lila didn't just watch from her window. She put on her rainboots and ran toward the oak tree, knowing Finn would be waiting with another adventure.
