The Fox's Secret Pool
Lily was running through the meadow behind her house, her bare feet dancing on the soft grass. The summer sun painted everything golden, and the air smelled of wildflowers and adventure.
Something glinted in the tall grass—a silver iPhone, seemingly abandoned. But when Lily touched it, the screen didn't show apps or games. Instead, it displayed a glowing map with a single path leading into the enchanted forest beyond her backyard.
"Curious," whispered Lily, following the magical path.
The trees grew taller and more ancient as she walked. Suddenly, a russet fox with the most intelligent amber eyes appeared from behind a fern.
"You found the Wayfinder's phone," said the fox, whose name was Felix. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to follow where it leads."
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"
"Magic phones are full of surprises," Felix winked. "Come! The Great Bull's Pool awaits."
They ran together—Lily laughing, Felix bounding gracefully—until they reached a crystal-clear pool nestled in a grove of silver birch trees. The water was still as glass, reflecting not just the sky, but something magical above.
"Look up," said Felix softly.
Lily gasped. Even though it was daylight, the constellation of the Great Bull shone in the reflection—its stars forming the shape of a powerful yet gentle creature.
"The Bull protects all who are kind and brave," Felix explained. "Today, you showed both by following magic into the unknown and trusting a fox you'd just met."
The pool's surface rippled, and a single golden star fell from the reflected Bull, landing gently in Lily's palm. It wasn't a star at all, but a tiny golden marble that felt warm with friendship.
"This will help you remember," said Felix. "Magic exists for those with brave hearts."
The iPhone's screen faded, its magic fulfilled. But as Lily ran home, the golden marble in her pocket and the memory of her fox friend would stay with her forever.
Some discoveries are worth running after.
