The Fox's Magic Hat
Lily was playing by the stream when she spotted something orange flashing behind the old oak tree. A fox! But not just any fox — this one wore a tiny purple hat perched between its pointy ears.
"Hello there!" Lily waved.
The fox trotted closer, its amber eyes sparkling. In its mouth, it carried a crumpled piece of paper. Lily gently took it and read:
*HELP NEEDED — Big Bull stuck by Rainbow Falls. Can't reach water.*
Lily gasped. Her grandfather's prize bull, Barnaby, must be in trouble! She grabbed her backpack and followed the fox through the forest. The purple hat bobbed ahead like a little purple lantern.
They found poor Barnaby indeed stuck — his massive horns had wedged between two rocks near the waterfall. The sun beat down, and the water glittered just out of reach. His great brown eyes looked sad.
"Don't worry, Barnaby!" Lily called.
The fox nudged Lily's backpack. Inside, she found her water bottle and — her grandma's old gardening hat!
"I have an idea!" Lily poured water onto the gardening hat, making it heavy and wet. She gave it to the fox.
Quick as lightning, the fox scrambled up the rocks, dripping water along the path. Each drop made the slippery moss even slipperier. Barnaby shifted, and suddenly — POP!
His horns came free!
Barnaby lowered his giant head and nudged the fox gently. The fox did a little dance, its purple hat spinning. Then, to Lily's surprise, Barnaby let out a happy snort and somehow produced a beautiful rainbow from his horns!
The fox bowed and removed its purple hat, offering it to Lily.
"For you," the fox seemed to say. "A true friend shares everything."
Lily placed the hat on her head. It fit perfectly.
That evening, Lily learned that even the smallest friends — foxes, girls, and even hats — can help the biggest friends. And sometimes, magic isn't in what you have, but in how you share it.
