The Fox and the Wishing Cable
Felix was a young fox with fur the color of autumn leaves. Every evening, he would go running through the meadow, his paws barely touching the grass. He loved the way the wind felt in his fur and the smell of pine trees in the air.
One day, while chasing butterflies near the old pond, Felix spotted something strange. A thick orange cable stretched across the water, glowing softly like a sunset captured in rope. At the end of the cable sat a small glass bowl, and inside swam the most beautiful goldfish Felix had ever seen.
The goldfish's scales shimmered like tiny stars. When it saw Felix, it swam to the edge of its bowl and spoke in a voice like tinkling bells.
"Hello, little fox! My name is Coral. This magical orange cable connects my home to the wishing well. But something is wrong - the cable is getting loose!"
Felix looked closer. Sure enough, the orange cable had slipped from its mooring. If it fell into the pond, all the wishes would be lost forever.
"What can I do?" Felix asked, his tail twitching with worry.
"You're small and quick," said Coral. "If you go running along that cable, you can reach the other side and tie it back up!"
Felix's heart beat fast. The cable swayed gently over the deep water. But Coral looked so worried, and Felix knew that children all over the village depended on those wishes.
So Felix took a deep breath and stepped onto the orange cable. He went running across it, his paws finding perfect balance. The cable bounced beneath him, but he didn't stop. When he reached the other side, he quickly tied the cable back to its post.
"Thank you, Felix!" Coral called out. "For your bravery, I grant you one wish."
Felix thought for a moment. "I wish that every child could have a friend as wonderful as you."
Coral smiled, and suddenly hundreds of tiny fish appeared in the pond, each glowing with its own special light.
From that day on, Felix went running to the pond every evening to visit his friend Coral. And somewhere, deep in his heart, he knew that true friendship was the greatest magic of all.
