The Fox and the Sleepwalking Spell
Lily loved visiting the secret creek behind her house. The water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight, and she spent hours there splashing and exploring.
One day, while swimming near the old willow tree, she spotted something strange. A boy stood at the edge of the water, moving stiffly, his eyes half-closed. His clothes were muddy and torn.
"Are you okay?" Lily called.
The boy didn't answer. He just kept walking toward the deeper water, step by step, like he was in a trance.
"Stop!" Lily cried. "You'll fall in!"
Suddenly, a bright orange fox burst from the bushes. The fox barked urgently and nipped at the boy's heels, making him stumble back from the water's edge.
"Thank you!" Lily said to the fox. "But what's wrong with him?"
The fox looked at Lily with wise golden eyes, then darted into the woods. Lily followed, curious. The fox led her to an ancient oak tree where a strange purple mist swirled around a broken amulet.
"It's a sleepwalking spell," whispered a voice. Lily turned to see an elderly woman with silver hair and kind eyes. "That boy has been wandering like a zombie for three days, trapped in the magic's dream. Only true friendship can break it."
The fox nudged Lily's hand. She understood.
Back at the creek, the boy was still walking toward the water, still trapped in his spell. Lily didn't run away. She didn't call for help. Instead, she reached out and gently took his stiff, cold hand.
"I'm Lily," she said softly. "Will you be my friend?"
The fox curled around the boy's legs, purring like a cat. The boy's half-closed eyes flickered. His stiff fingers slowly curled around Lily's hand.
"I'm... Oliver," he whispered, his voice raspy from days of silence.
The purple mist around the ancient oak tree dissolved into sparkles. The amulet glowed bright gold, then faded away.
Oliver blinked, looking around in wonder. "What happened?"
"You were under a zombie spell," Lily explained. "But you're free now."
The fox dipped its paw in the water, then splashed them both. Lily and Oliver laughed.
"Want to go swimming?" Lily asked. "I can teach you."
"I'd love that," Oliver said, smiling for the first time.
That afternoon, Lily taught Oliver to swim. The fox watched from the bank, its orange fur glowing in the sunset. And every day after that, the three friends returned to the magical creek — splashing, playing, and celebrating the day that kindness broke a powerful spell.
Lily learned that sometimes the scariest things just need a little friendship. And Oliver learned that even the deepest magic can't stand against a true friend's hand reaching out in kindness.
