The Fox and the Lonely Zombie
Leo loved playing zombie games on his iPhone, but he never thought he'd actually meet one.
It happened on a Tuesday afternoon. Leo was sitting in his backyard, his messy hair blowing in the wind, when he saw something orange flash behind the oak tree. A fox! But not just any fox—this one had emerald eyes that twinkled like stars.
"Follow me," the fox seemed to say without speaking, flicking its tail.
Leo followed, iPhone still in his hand, as the fox led him through a patch of bushes that suddenly shimmered with rainbow light. On the other side, everything was different—the grass was purple, the sky was pink, and floating islands dotted the horizon.
"Welcome," said a voice. Leo turned and gasped.
Standing before him was a zombie, but not like the scary ones in his game. This zombie had bright blue skin, wore a polka-dot bowtie, and held a bouquet of wilting flowers. The zombie's green hair stuck up like a pineapple.
"I'm Zedd," the zombie said sadly. "Everyone runs away when they see me. But I just want friends."
The fox stepped forward and nudged Zedd's hand with its nose. Zedd's face lit up.
"See?" Leo said. "The fox knows you're friendly."
"You're not scared?" Zedd asked.
"No!" Leo grinned. "Want to play my favorite iPhone game?"
For hours, they played—Leo, Zedd, and the magical fox. Zedd wasn't good at video games, but he made Leo laugh with his silly zombie dances. The fox curled up beside them, its emerald eyes watching happily.
"Time to go home," the fox whispered as the sky began to darken.
"Will I ever see you again?" Leo asked Zedd.
"Every time you play," Zedd smiled. "And remember—just because someone looks different doesn't mean they're scary."
The fox led Leo back through the shimmering bushes. When Leo reached his backyard, his iPhone screen showed something new—a tiny fox icon that glowed whenever he opened his zombie game.
Leo smiled, touching his messy hair. Sometimes the best friends are the ones you least expect.
