The Fox and the Lightning Friend

Lily was lonely. Every afternoon, she sat by her window, watching the woods behind her house. One day, a rust-orange fox appeared at the edge of the trees. His coat glowed like sunset, and his eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Hello there," Lily whispered, opening her window just a crack.

The fox didn't run away. Instead, he sat down and twitched his nose, as if saying hello back.

Lily began leaving small treats for him—bits of apple, crusts of bread. Every day, the fox returned, and every day, Lily's heart grew warmer. She named him Rusty.

Then came the night of the big storm. Lightning flashed across the sky like cracks in a dark shell. Thunder rumbled like a giant tummy. Lily watched from her window, worried about Rusty all alone in the woods.

Suddenly, she saw him—Rusy was cowering under her porch!

Lily grabbed her raincoat and rushed outside. She found the fox shivering, his fur soaked and matted. "It's okay, Rusty," she soothed, wrapping him in her favorite blanket. "I've got you now."

A brilliant bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree nearby. CRACK! The tree split open, and something tumbled out—a wooden puppet that Lily had lost years ago!

But it wasn't just any puppet. The lightning had done something magical. The puppet began to move, jerking and stumbling like a zombie, but with a goofy grin on its painted face.

"Is that... my old puppet?" Lily gasped.

The fox nudged the puppet with his nose, and it did a silly little dance.

Lily laughed, all her fear washed away. "You're my lightning zombie friend!" she giggled.

That night, Lily made two new friends: Rusty the fox, who had come to her for help, and Ziggy the zombie puppet, who had been brought back to life by magic. She learned that even in the scariest storms, wonderful surprises can appear.

And Rusty learned that sometimes, the bravest thing is asking for help.

From then on, every stormy night, Lily left her door open just a crack. Because you never know when a friend might need shelter... or when lightning might bring magic to your doorstep.
