The Fox and the Friendly Zombie

In the heart of Whispering Woods, a clever little fox named Rusty discovered something strange near the old oak tree. A lumpy green creature shuffling slowly through fallen leaves, making soft groaning sounds.

Rusty's orange fur stood up. The older animals had warned him about zombies—scary monsters that stumbled around at night. But as Rusty watched, he noticed something peculiar. This zombie wasn't trying to scare anyone. He was trying to toss a round object into the air.

Curious, Rusty crept closer. "What are you doing?"

The zombie jumped, dropping the ball. "Oh! Hello there, little fox. I'm Benny. I'm trying to play baseball."

"Baseball?" Rusty's ears perked up. He'd heard stories about this magical game from the woodland creatures who lived near the human village.

Benny nodded sadly. "Yes. But my arms are too stiff, and I move too slowly. Nobody wants to play with me."

Rusty's heart felt funny. Benny didn't look scary at all. He looked lonely.

"I'll play with you!" Rusty exclaimed. "I'm fast, so I can run for both of us."

Benny's gray face brightened. "Really?"

"Really!" Rusty grabbed the worn baseball and placed it in Benny's hand. "You throw. I'll catch."

Benny tossed the ball. It wobbled through the air. Rusty sprang into action, dashing and leaping, catching it in his teeth.

"Wonderful!" Benny cheered, his voice sounding more alive than before.

They played until moonlight filled the forest clearing. Other animals emerged to watch—Rabbit, Owl, even grumpy Badger. They gasped as they realized this zombie wasn't scary at all. He was just Benny, someone who wanted a friend.

By the end of summer, Benny wasn't stiff and slow anymore. Playing baseball had made him strong and confident. And Rusty? He'd learned that friendship comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors—even zombie green.

Sometimes the most magical things happen when you give someone a chance, even if they seem a little different at first.
