The Emerald Knight

Lily hated dinner time. Every Tuesday, Mom served spinach, and every Tuesday, Lily's plate sat untouched. But this Tuesday was different.

As Lily poked at the green leaves with her fork, one tiny spinach leaf trembled. Then it rolled off her plate and grew—bigger and bigger—until it became a tiny knight in shimmering green armor!

"I'm Sir Spinach," the knight announced in a squeaky but proud voice. "And I need your help, friend!"

Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk?"

"Only to special children with brave hearts," Sir Spinach said. "The Magic Garden is in trouble! The Shadow Bugs are eating all the dreams. Will you come with me?"

Before Lily could answer, Sir Spinach tapped her spoon like a wand. WHOOSH! Lily shrank until she was smaller than a thumb, and suddenly they were running—running through a secret door that had opened beneath her kitchen table.

They arrived in a garden where flowers glowed like stars and trees whispered secrets. But shadowy bugs crawled everywhere, munching on colorful dream-orbs that floated like bubbles.

"They're eating the dreams children need for bedtime stories!" Sir Spinach cried, drawing his sword made of diamond-light. "Together, friend—we can save them!"

Lily's heart pounded as they ran side by side. She scooped up dream-orbs while Sir Spinach fended off the bugs. But there were too many Shadow Bugs!

Then Lily had an idea. "Spinach makes you strong!" she shouted, grabbing handfuls of emerald leaves from the magical plants around her and throwing them like confetti. The leaves transformed into tiny spinach knights who joined the fight!

The Shadow Bugs scurried away, and the garden sparkled brighter than ever.

Sir Spinach bowed. "You're the bravest friend I've ever known."

When Lily returned to her kitchen, she ate every bite of spinach on her plate. Mom gasped. "Since when do you like spinach?"

Lily smiled, remembering Sir Spinach's courage. "Sometimes, the things we think we're scared of turn out to be our greatest friends."
